Whoa! 3.2 inch glass LCD? It’s much larger than the 2.5 inch screen of the Apple Ipod Classic. The Zune 120GB also measures only half an inch thick, and a welcome weight of 128 grams makes it feel solid and tough without becoming a paperweight.

To compete with the scroll wheel of Apple, the company has done its best to recreate the feel with a flat, stamp-sized direction pad that both clicks in every direction and reads the motion of a thumb gently flicked over its surface, giving users a quicker way to skim through long lists. That’s cool because imagine how many music files can you store in a 120 gb bag of space. Lots of storage means tons of music.

The Zune will play all your basic audio files plus a good selection of video formats and display JPEG photos. There’s also an FM radio with built-in RDS support for showing station data, plus the ability to identify a song while it plays and if you want to have it stored, add it to your cart to purchase it. This is great, making it easy to identify and purchase “ala” point and shoot. It is such a unique focus, focus on music discovery and add it to the storage capacity, what more can a restless music fan could ask for.

Zune is designed to soothe the needs of a compulsive music lover. Large storage for different genres and there’s always a chance to expand with its music discovery feature. It makes it more competitive, a fierce competitor of the Ipod Classic. This is not a matter of who drew first blood but who ends up with the vote of the consumer.
